Today, the church is being called to recognize this journey together. In communion, participation, and mission, we, as young people, are also present on this path, taking into account our diversity.
Chapter 39 of Christus Vivit tells us that the church must humbly recognize that some concrete things must change. It is necessary to gather the vision and criticism of young people because we want to be part of the whole and be that voice that collaborates with the transformation of the church.
Being on this Synodal path invites us to go out of our comfort zone as individuals and as a church keeping in mind the words of Pope Francis when he states that “synodality prevents us from becoming a museum church, beautiful, but mute, with much past and little future.”
We are invited to be part of this culture of encounter, to be “youth that evangelizes other young people,” and to feel part of the decision-making process within the church by including the different youth walking together.
The great challenge is to create and develop processes that allow the youth to recognize this transforming action in the concrete and according to their reality, expressing and manifesting themselves without feeling excluded, without judgments or reproaches, and feeling free to express their faith.
We took part in an International Colloquium on Youth and the Synodal Journey, where the speaker quoted an African proverb, “if you want to go fast, go alone and if you want to go far, go together.” The goal of Synodality is not to go fast but to go far. As young people, we often do not feel heard, although we are the face of the church, a big family that grows in communion.
We want to be part of this Culture of Encounter!
We are motivated by the Spirit, which is why we will have our first International SURGE Encounter in July 2023, where we will share with young people from different realities. Together we will open our hearts to listening and dialogue to continue being part of a whole that is our church, making our mission a concrete and transforming action of our reality.
We are the CCVI youth and young adults!
We want to be heard and to be taken into account. We want to love without pressure, out of freedom, and demonstrate with concrete actions that God speaks to our hearts. We are very excited to participate in the World Youth Day, Lisbon 2023, to continue building presence and communion with young people worldwide.
We invite you to support us to continue accompanying young leadership. Your contribution will allow more young people to participate in the Encuentro and World Youth Day.
