LICEO Cervantino from UIW Bajío Missions of Holy Week

Last April 8, 13 people gathered in the facilities of the Liceo Cervantino: 8 mid-superior students, 3 CCVI novices, a teacher and I; Uriel, Coordinator of Campus Ministry. We went to the municipality of Pénjamo in the town of Estación Pénjamo, Guanajuato to the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in which Fathers Crispin and Emmanuel Vicario are in charge.

The UIW Bajío bus departed to the Church where the commissioning mass was celebrated at 4:00 p.m. At the end of the ceremony, the leaders of the 5 communities that we would visit picked us up.

We organized ourselves in 4 teams for the visits of the communities: La Noria, Rancho Seco, San Isidro, Crucitas and Zambrano.

On Sunday morning, before we came back, we were present at the March of Joy with the children and young people who finished the Youthful Easter that took place at 12:00 a.m. Then, we continued attending the mass at 13:00 hrs. in which they thanked our mission visit to the communities.

We all came back very happy. We have shared the experiences and how well they treated us all in the communities, but also reflecting on all the shortcomings and needs there are in that place. In the religious matters, pastoral and liturgical formation is necessary, and there is necessity of accompaniment; there is an academic need, there is lack of drinking water: they only have this service 2 times a week, there are no public services, there is inequality. The young people have to go out to work or they have to go to the United States as immigrants. When they return, they waste the money they brought buying trucks and drinking alcohol and those who stay make a living by sowing and with their animals. Also, we add to this entire social, cultural and demographic problem, the strong arrival of non-Catholic groups.
