Feast of the Presentation

February 2nd is celebrated as the Feast of the Presentation … when Jesus was taken by his parents to the temple – as was to their custom – to be presented and consecrated to God. He was received and recognized by Simeon, and by Anna, two venerable elders. The scene is recounted in today’s Gospel.

At the end of the Gospel, Simeon’s prophecy of Mary’s sufferings is emphasized.

Pope John Paul II taught that, ‘Simeon’s words seem like a second Annunciation to Mary, for they tell her of the actual historical situation in which the Son is to accomplish his mission, namely, in misunderstanding and sorrow’ (Redemptoris Mater, n16).

February 2 is also “World Day of Consecrated Life”

Pray with us!

Grateful for God’s call

As custodians of a charismatic heritage

As dreamers and designers of paths of brotherhood and sisterhood with all humanity

As builders of bridges of communion in the Church

As prophetic creators of spaces for change

We reach out to God and to wounded humanity.

Increasingly interconnected and together with other vocations, generations and cultures

We desire to bear witness in today’s world to the presence of Jesus – the poor servant, free and obedient to the Father – and to his gestures and words.

Best wishes to each consecrated man and woman! On the feast of Light!
